President Mahama Marks 67th Birthday

President John Mahama  last Saturday observed his 67th birthday with a morning devotional service at his residence in Accra.

The service was initiated by the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, (AG, Ghana), Rev. Dr Stephen Yenusom Wengam, and a team of pastors.

They included the Founder of the Action Chapel International, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams; Rev. Michael Ayesu, Rev. Ben Tettey and Rev. Ernest Agyei (retd), both of the AG, Ghana  Others were Rev. Andrew N. Awintia, Rev. Aaron Fant and Pastor Boateng Sarpong.

Communion

In a brief sermon, Rev. Dr Wengam urged President Mahama to remain faithful to Jesus, seek intimacy with the Holy Spirit, and trust in the Lord alone for divine success, guidance and protection.

The General Superintendent further admonished the President to avail himself as an instrument in God’s hands to transform Ghana into a prosperous, peaceful and Christ - centered nation.

As part of the service, the General Superintendent administered the holy communion to President Mahama and his family, and anointed him for the next phase of his life.

God’s grace

In a brief response, President Mahama recounted his humble beginnings, saying he never could imagine that he was going to become President of Ghana any day.

He credited his elevation and achievements to the grace of God.

President Mahama narrated how he became a born-again Christian at Ringway Gospel Centre Assemblies of God at Osu in Accra, under the pastoral leadership of the former Senior Pastor, Rev. Ernest Agyei.

With divine guidance and favour, President Mahama promised to do his utmost to leave a lasting legacy.

Also as part of celebrating the day, President Mahama, accompanied by his wife and children, privately visited  the children's wards of the LEKMA Hospital at Teshie and the Maamobi Polyclinic

The visit was to empathise with the young patients and also provide material support  to them as they undergo treatment.

At the LEKMA Hospital, the President personally intervened and instructed the facilitation of an emergency referral of a young girl to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) for immediate, specialised follow-up care.

This action ensured the patient received a higher level of medical attention that was needed but previously inaccessible.

Support

Aside from this significant intervention, President Mahama made donations to the facilities to support the patients who were struggling with their bills.

Additionally, helped by his delegation, he presented various gifts and monetary donations to every child receiving treatment.

Again, parents and guardians of the young patients received cash support to provide immediate relief for families facing the financial strains of taking care of their indisposed children and wards.

The impromptu visits reportedly brought "smiles to the faces of young patients and their families," who expressed deep gratitude for the President’s thoughtful outreach.

Frontline health workers

The patients were not the only beneficiaries of the President’s visit and kind gesture.

He extended his appreciation to the medical teams who spent their days caring for the community’s most vulnerable.

In acknowledgment of their hardwork, dedication and professional services, President Mahama presented monetary gifts to the dedicated medical staff at both the LEKMA Hospital and the Maamobi Polyclinic.

Staff at both facilities expressed their gratitude to the President for "acknowledging their efforts and for choosing to spend his birthday with them and the patients on admission," recognising the morale boost provided by the high-profile visit.
