President Mahama Pledges Support for 2026 World Assemblies of God Congress in Ghana

President John Dramani Mahama has pledged his government’s support for the 2026 World Assemblies of God Congress to be hosted by Ghana. 

The President affirmed his support in Accra when the Global Chairman of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship, Rev. Dominic Yeo, and other executives of the church paid a courtesy call on him.

Rev. Yeo was accompanied by the General Superintendents of Ghana, Benin and Zambia, Rev. Stephen Wengam, Rev. Ben Sodji and Rev. Lipenga Banda, respectively, as well as the Chairman of the Local Planning Committee of the 2026 World Congress, Rev. Andrews Awintia.

Also present was the First Lady, Lordina Dramani Mahama. 

World Congress

The Accra 2026 global congress will be the first in Africa. Launched by the Global Chairman of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship in Accra last week, it is scheduled to run from October 12 to 14, 2026.

The theme for the Congress is “Commissioned: One Mandate, Every Nation (Matthew 28:18–20).

It has been scheduled to commemorate the 2000th anniversary of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, as well as the Day of Pentecost, the birthday of the Church.

More than 100,000 delegates and a countless number of tourists from all over the world are expected to attend the congress.

During the period, the delegates will, among other things, consider strategies to advance the MM33 Agenda to establish one million Assemblies of God churches worldwide by 2033. 

Impact

President Mahama, who is a member of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, acknowledged the huge spiritual impact, colossal economic opportunities and great international recognition the global event will bring to Ghana.

All that, he said, underscored the need for collaboration and government assistance.

President Mahama reiterated the need for leaders to be guided by moral and biblical values.

The Global Chairman, Rev. Yeo, commended President Mahama for his visionary, decisive and bold leadership, which, he said, had contributed to the relative stability of the economy.

Rev. Yeo further praised President Mahama for launching a Code of Conduct for government officials.

He appealed for an effective church–state partnership to help the Assemblies of God, Ghana, organise a world-class Congress.

He, on behalf of the church, expressed gratitude for the support being offered to enable Ghana to successfully host the event, which would be the first in Africa since the 110-year history of the Fellowship.
