President Mahama Leads High-Level Delegation to 80th UN General Assembly

President John Dramani Mahama has departed Accra for New York to lead Ghana’s delegation to the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80), which opens on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

According to a statement signed by the Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the President is scheduled to deliver his address to the world body on Thursday, September 25, 2025. 

His packed itinerary in New York includes significant diplomatic and economic engagements. In his role as the African Union’s champion for financial institutions, President Mahama will host two major side events.

His schedule also features crucial bilateral meetings with the United Nations Secretary-General, several heads of state, and global leaders, including the President of the Rockefeller Foundation.

The President will engage with the US-Africa Chamber of Commerce and is expected to make a historic visit to the NASDAQ stock exchange to ring the closing bell.

The First Lady, Lordina Dramani Mahama, is also attending the assembly. She will address side events organised by the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) and deliver the keynote address at a special World Vision International prayer service dedicated to the world’s children.

The high-level delegation accompanying the President includes Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Executive Secretary Dr. Callistus Mahama, and Special Aide and Presidential Advisor Joyce Bawah Mogtari. 

Also present are Deputy Chief of Staff (Finance and Administration) and Technical Adviser to the First Lady, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), Minister for Health Kwabena Mintah Akandoh (MP), Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister for Trade Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, and Chief Executive of the Ghana Investment Promotions Centre, Simon Madjie.

President Mahama and his team are expected to return to Ghana on September 30, 2025.
