Africa World Airlines Donates to Labone SHS
Africa World Airlines (AWA) has donated GH¢100,000 to the Labone Senior High School in support of its endowment fund.
The contribution reflects AWA’s ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility, particularly in the areas of education and community development.
The donation also underscores the airline’s dedication to empowering future generations and fostering sustainable growth within educational institutions.
The founder of AWA and an alumnus of Labone Senior High School, Togbe Afede XIV, recounted his days as a student at the school from 1974 to 1976.
He highlighted the school’s pivotal role in shaping his academic and professional path.
“Labone gave me the foundation to pursue my dreams. This school taught me ambition, hard work, planning and perseverance,” he said.
He emphasised that the donation was not a one-off gesture, but a strategic contribution to the school’s endowment fund; a long-term investment, to ensure sustainable development for future generations.
“I do not believe in episodic reactions to crises. This donation is an investment in the school’s future,” he said.
Students
Beyond the financial gesture, Togbe Afede inspired the students, encouraging them to adopt values such as discipline, determination, imagination and planning.
“Success does not come from dreams alone. It comes from waking up and working towards those dreams. Poverty is manufactured in bed.
The harder you work, the luckier you become,” he told the students.
He urged them to cultivate a habit of reading, prepare ahead for lessons and focus on deep understanding rather than rote memorisation.
Togbe Afede also highlighted the importance of good character, encouraging the students to practice honesty, humility, modesty and gratitude.
“Altruism is the best form of egoism. When you help others, you are ultimately helping yourself,” he said.
Gratitude
The Headmistress of the school, ??Rejoice Skua Acorlor??, expressed gratitude to AWA and praised the continuous support of the old students, particularly Togbe Afede, who had earlier donated a similar amount in December last year.
“In the past few years, Togbe has written several cheques in support of this school.
Today’s donation further demonstrates his unwavering commitment,” she said.
She encouraged students to learn from the example of Togbe Afede, saying, “You cannot give what you do not have.
Study hard now, so you too can give back someday.”
